Festival NITRA 2018

International Theatre Festival Divadelná Nitra 2018 is held from 28th September to 3rd October, 2018. The 27th edition of the largest International Theatre Festival and one of the most important cultural events in Slovakia will disclose the concept of RE.  A feeling of life on the edge, AT THE TURNING POINT, the need for a CHANGE OF PARADIGM in one’s perception of reality are contained in many terms that incorporate prefixes denoting AGAIN, ANEW, ANSWER. This is the basis for the title and theme of the International Theatre Festival Divadelná Nitra 2018 – RE.

In 2018, the Festival will be in line with the theme of developing its conceptual character, bringing transitions to other types of art and communities, promoting networking among Slovak artists and critics and foreign experts, maintaining international character, presenting new themes, new names, new tendencies.

The main festival programme during the 6-day theatre event will offer 13 productions from eight countries. There is a wide range of productions for various tastes – contemporary drama, author’s theatre, contemporary dance, physical theatre, performance and even a new circus.

My Struggle (Michał Borczuch, TR Warszawa, Poland, plakat na zdj.), Night (André Braga & Cláudia Figueiredo, Portugal), Sand in the Eyes (Rabih Mroué, Libanon & Germany), 33 RPM and a Few Seconds (Rabih Mroué & Lina Saneh, Libanon & Germany), As Far As My Fingertips Take Me (Tania El Khoury, United Kingdom & Libanon), Hungarian Acacia (Kristóf Kelemen & Bence György Pálinkás, Hungary), Batacchio (Maksim Komaro, Cirk La Putyka, Czech Republic), Bohemia Lies by the Sea (Michaela Homolová, Naive Theatre, Liberec, Czech Republic ).

The Slovak theatre art, selected by curators from MLOKi, will be represented by: The Reunification of the Two Koreas (Júlia Rázusová, State Theatre Košice), The Emperor of America (Iveta Ditte Jurčová, Studio 12 & Poton Theatre), Stalker (Ondrej Spišák, Teatro Tatro) WOW! (Jozef Vlk & Stanislava Vlčeková, Debris Company). And the hosting Andrej Bagar Theatre in Nitra will present their production People, Places and Things (Marián Amsler).

In addition to the main festival programme, there is also a rich accompanying programme for children and adults – theatre, movies, concerts, exhibitions, reading, debates, workshops, in sections Festival for children, Young Theatre, different_square, RE Agora Nitra. We will debate with famous people, develop forms of critical reflection and informal education for students and children in projects How to Understand Theatre, V4@Theatre Critics Residency and A Tulip For You.

We will meet in the halls of two Nitra theatres and on the premises of the gallery, museum or synagogue, and many events will take place on the festival square and the adjacent streets, as well as in the Festival tent, which will become the new meeting point of the festival.
